
The Regional Maritime University (RMU) on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DNV and Benmarine Services (BmS) Ghana JV Limited, focusing on knowledge sharing, research and development.
The MoU signing, which finalized previous engagements with DNV, reinforces RMU’s commitment to academic excellence and the growth of the maritime industry.
It also aligns with DNV’s Maritime Academy initiative, aimed at offering competitive training programs for the maritime industry.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU, Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jr., expressed his delight at the signing of the MoU, noting that it would be mutually beneficial to both institutions.
He emphasised that, as part of the resolutions from the recently held International Blue Economy Conference in The Gambia, the initiation of the Blue Economy Master’s programme would be supported by this partnership.
Partnering with DNV, he mentioned, would be essential for both institutions and called on all parties to remain committed.
The Managing Director of DNV BmS, Mr. Frederick Asamoah, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, particularly in the areas of academic and industrial research as well as knowledge sharing to address the maritime industry.
He explained that, DNV’s focus areas include maritime operations, safety, risk, and reliability, which aligns with the university’s goals whereas, organisation’s expertise in classification, certification and verification could facilitate capacity building in the maritime industry.
He was accompanied by the Deputy Managing Director of DNV BmS, Mr. Bernard Lomotey Agbloe, and Business Controller, Mary Owusu Ewusi.
